The RainAO Project

The RainAO project is an effort to develop an open source, cross platform album organizer. The sourceforge project page is at http://sourceforge.net/projects/rainao. You can browse the CVS tree by going here. Sign up for our various mailing lists here.

A few details about the implementation:

It's written in C++.

It's licensed under the GPL

It uses the wxWindows framework.

It will (hopefully) run on all wxWindows supported platforms (MS Windows, MacOS 9/X, Linux, and others).

It will access the freedb database to get information on CDs (and maybe other formats as well, this needs to be looked into).

My motivation for this project is my need to keep track of the numerous albums that I own, in a few different formats. I aim to be able to keep track of not only CDs but also MP3 "albums", casettes, records, and anything else that crops up. Additionally, I aim to mmake it easy to track my live music as well, as I do quite a bit of trading in taper-friendly bands.
